Way weaker than my body!
Last week was a real wake up call. My mind is WAY weaker than my body! And my stomach is probably the weakest link in the entire system! Multiple times last week I thought “there is no way in h-ll I can do that second workout…” and not sure why or how I even attempted a few of them, but I did. Probably the guilt and team pressure but guess what – I did them and besides a really bad belly ache on Friday during the run – All was good!
The first real challenge was doing the run Thursday night. My chair and my lazy butt were YELLING and tempting me on Thursday to just blow it off, who would know???? Some how, some way, I changed my clothes and had a great run – even included a few hills (Ebner and 32nd). One hour later I arrived back home and felt a real sense of accomplishment. I never thought I would have had a good one hour run in my body that day! Hmmmm mind over matter???? No I think not, I would say Matter over Mind!!!!
Friday’s run was good until between the second and third pickup (i.e. 5 min tempo). I had such belly cramps I thought I would blow! I told Rob and Angie to continue on without me. I was able to keep them in sight on the last tempo but literally was “pinching my cheeks” to not have an accident the rest of the run. It was horrible, but I did finish, no accidents and HUGE apologies to the residents of the Smith household as my nemesis on the run was left in your bathroom! Whoops glad I had places to go! 🙂
Saturday was a 2 hr bike and 45 min run. What an impressive showing by the entire team! We had a tough bike and then managed an awesome run, staying together and still having a sense of humor at the end! Well, the sense of humor dissipated at the restaurant when the hunger kicked in and the food was a little behind that! Heads up Blue Moon, we are a TOUGH, hungry crowd – we try to be civilized but often fail….
Okay, it is well known within the team that I do not read ahead on the workout schedule so when Angie informed me we had a bike AFTER our swim with Joan on Sunday I could have cried!!! No kidding, Joan kicks my butt EVERY Sunday and you want me to bike after that??? No Way!! Well Angie reiterated that to me several times and IÂ packed the appropriate clothing to do both. However I was very skeptical that I could do it. After the swim, I was pooped. Joan thinks I should kick when I swim. For two years now, she can’t figure out why I don’t go anywhere when I kick! I KILL myself kicking and just can’t keep up! All in all it SUCKS! My legs are dead after our 1.5 hr swim sessions with Joan. I love Joan for her input and insight but I continue to be a horrible kicker. Now you want me to bike for 1 hour after swimming with Joan??? Fat Chance. Well once again, mind is way weaker than my body cause I did it. Not fast, not impressive but guess what I did it and I didn’t end up quitting or whining (too much). All I can hope is that my mind eventually catches up to my body and possesses the same strength as my body and as my teammates.
How do people do this alone??? I will never know, nor do I want to! I love my team and the strength I get from them! We laugh, joke, kid each other and once again, get through the workout as a group. Everyone brings their own comic relief to this training program and I thank God for each of them and their sense of humor. Without them I would be home in my chair….hmmmm not a bad place! just different! As Paul said on Sunday “9 weeks in!” I thought “Please don’t tell me how weeks many left! Ignorance is bliss! I am going to take this one week at a time.”
