Well this week, life has happened! And just when I was getting crabby, life happened again and I realized – I don’t have ANY thing to complain about! I should embrace it!
Tuesday received a new foster dog, Stella, in my house. Stella is quite a challenge. I have been fostering dogs for over a year and never had a dog fight! Well now with two females in the house they are a DAILY occurrence! Stella is a 1.5 yr old 63 lb female that takes on 115 lb Lula every chance she gets! Well Lula is finally putting her foot down and we have had some blood drawn and some interesting situations. So far nothing serious and Stella is getting better as she figures out where she falls in the pecking order and tomorrow she is being spayed so I think that will help (I hope!).
Wednesday I started teaching a class at the Tech School here – Intro to Business. Yikes I was pretty nervous! I have given lots of presentations but never taught a class. Well with lots of help from my friends, I did okay! Only two students out of 25 fell asleep! And then they woke up and participated. Who can blame them it is a 5p-8p class! I am not that entertaining! My plan was to get my evening run done after class. Ha, so much for that plan! I was exhausted and came straight home. Wednesday evening workouts may have to move to Thursday!
Thursday and Friday were pretty good days! However the run on Friday night was really tough. I was very proud of myself for hammering it out even though it wasn’t my fastest or anything to brag about – it was a run that hurt from the first minute until the 45th. It was ugly and I stuck it out! Times 10 and that is what I think the IM run will feel like! Get used to it Pam!
Amazing what 2 extra hours of sleep in the morning can do for the brain and the body. We did our first swim, bike, run on Saturday and I felt pretty good the entire time 2.75 hr workout. I think part of my problem Friday night was nutrition – or lack there of! I was busy working on finding a solution to a web site problem and didn’t get an afternoon snack so I think I might have been fighting some lack of energy. Must not do that again!
We had a great post-workout breakfast but again I chose a spicy breakfast and my nose ran faster and longer than I did! For someone who ALWAYS puts Tabasco on my eggs, I sure have been surprised by the spiciness of the Spanish and Mexican influenced dishes in this midwestern restaurant!
Well back to the original paragraph of this post “Life happens”… I thought I had a busy schedule until I had my students introduce themselves and a few of them work full-time, have young kids, go to school at night and one is not only raising her 3 kids but her 3 nieces and nephews! Wow! I don’t have anything to complain about! And then on Saturday I found out another friend lost their battle against cancer. This week has put my life in perspective – I am fortunate to be able to do everything I do and the minute I complain about it – Smack me because others would love to have this opportunity! I had a brief stint where I experienced health issues, but nothing that truly altered my daily life. I hope I never forget how fortunate I am. I have lost two friends to cancer in the last three weeks – I do what I do because I CAN! Thank God I can!
